Hebrews 4:12For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Parable of the Sower 9-30-08

The Parable of the Sower
Read Luke 8

A farmer goes out to sow his seed. Some of the seed fell along the path, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rock, so when it grew, the plants withered because of no moisture. Some of the seed fell in the weeds. When the plants grow they will get chocked by the weeds. The other seed fell on good soil. It came up and grew a hundred times more than was sown.

Sound familiar?

Now what does Jesus mean when he says all this? To start of, the farmer is God. When he preaches the word (scatter the seed), there are many ways people accept it. The people who bear the word and forget it. Next are the seeds on the path. The people on the rock receive the word joyfully, but after many times of testing, they fall away and stop believing. The people who are choked by life worries, rides, or pleasures, are the people that are the seeds that grow with the weeds. But the seeds that fell in good soil bear the word, live it, and by living produce a good crop.

Reflection:
1. Do you find yourself being scattered among rocks or weeds?
2. Do you receive God's word with joy?
